For over 30 years Quality, Caring, and Creativity have been the guiding principles of the Festival Dance Academy.
Offering quality training in a warm, supportive atmosphere, our professional and experienced faculty give attention and encouragement to every student and bring outstanding dance instruction to dancers ages 3 through adult in four different studio locations: Moscow, Pullman, Genesee, and Lewiston.
Our students gain self-esteem, confidence, strength, agility, grace and artistry. Festival Dance Academy students also have opportunities to perform in "A Christams Carol" - The Ballet, “The Nutcracker ” and at Holiday Open House performances, spring recitals, “Dance Outs” for schools and performances at community events.
Festival Dance offers classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Celtic, and Hip Hop, along with Kinderdance classes for dancers as young as 4 years old.

The beautiful professional dance studio is located in the old Music Building on the Lewis Clark State College campus, 1105 7th St. Park right in front of the building and walk up the ramp and through the doors. You will see the dance studio double doors immediately inside and across the short entryway.
Located in the Univeristy of Idaho Physical Education Building, the Academy studios are in room 110 and upstairs in room 212. The Festival Dance Academy Executive Office is in room 203.
The easiest way to find the PEB Building, is to locate the Kibbie Dome. The street that is east of the KIBBIE Dome, which runs north & south is Rayburn. The Phys. Ed Bldg. is located on Rayburn in the same parking lot which houses the tennis courts, the Memorial gym and the swimming pool. The Physical Education Bldg. is in the south end of that complex. Enter through the double doors across from the tennis courts.
Room 110 is immediately on your right as you enter from the parking lot. To get to Room 212, go straight toward the glassed-in office, then turn left until you see the stairs. Go up the stairs, and 212 is on your right.
CAUTION !!!! You will get a ticket from UI Parking if you do not have a Gold or Visitor's permit. You can park in the 15 minute lane or at a meter. To Be Announced
We provide recitals to give our students a complete dance education, including performance experience on a professional stage. Recitals are an important part of developing confident dancers. Festival Dance prides itself on spring recitals that truly highlight the students! Each class performs a piece that is designed specifically for their age and abilities. All of our students go on stage with confidence that they have the technical ability to perform the choreography. In addition, you, the parent, will be confident that your child will be dressed in a costume and performing dance moves that are fun, tasteful, and age appropriate.
A $25 Recital Fee is due by April 1st for each student for each course. (For example, if one student is enrolled in both Ballet 1 and Jazz the fee is $50.) The Recital Fee covers costumes (buying, making, cleaning), a costumer, expenses related to the backstage manager, floor moving, music, digital video & audio recording, facility rental, lighting crew and theater crew. We could not provide a high quality recital experience for your child without this fee. It is extremely important that you pay your fee on time to ensure you child’s participation in the recital. Tuition for May is due as usual by the 1st of the month. The month will consist of regular classes in the weeks before the recital as well as a dress rehearsal and a recital. May’s tuition will not be pro-rated. The dress rehearsal and the recital performance is a valuable part of the dance education we provide.
Generally rehearsals are done in class until the week of performance – sometimes we have extra rehearsals for advanced classes or when classes are combined, but in that case you will be notified in advance. Rehearsal schedules for the week and day of the performance will be mailed to you and posted on our website. Please adhere to the scheduled arrival times to make rehearsals move along smoothly and provide a great performance experience for every one involved!
Parents will not have to provide any costumes beyond what is required as part of the dress code for each class, hair, and make-up. Individual instructors will notify parents of the hair and make-up requirements for their child’s class(es). All other items necessary for the costumes will be provided by Festival Dance.
We hire a professional videographer, ZKPro, to record and produce a professional quality video of our recitals. DVDs can be ordered prior to the recital dates, and forms will be available at the recitals.
Festival Dance and Performing Arts Association invites you join us as we continue our efforts to bring the arts to the people and the people to the arts in our area. Because of the ever increasing financial stress on arts programs of all kinds, maintaining a dance academy and attracting professional performing arts to our area is a complex and challenging task and we need your assistance to ensure that we not only provide outstanding performances, but that we support our YouthReach programs as well.
Bringing the arts to the people and the people to the arts guided by the core values of:
Diversity
Accessibliity
Nurturing of local talent
Community involvement and Artistic
Excellence
As you know, Festival Dance is one of the busiest non-profit arts organizations in the region providing:
Our programs include:
Great Performances Series, a series of major events featuring performances by acclaimed ballet, modern dance, jazz, musical theatre and ethnic dance companies.
Festival Dance Academy, providing professional dance instruction in Moscow, Troy, Genesee, Lapwai, and Lewiston. We are the premier provider of dance education in the region.
Festival ArtReach helps to build arts programs in rural communities.
Festival YouthReach offers free performances for local schools by professional artists.
FDPA is funded by the Idaho Commission on the Arts, Washington State Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, Foundation Northwest, the Latah County Community Foundation, the Latah County Arts and Culture Committee, and the Western States Arts Federation, in addition to other community organizations. While these are some impressive groups, the funding we receive doesn’t allow us to do all that we do. We must get additional funding from individuals to continue to survive.
More about us:
Some of the best things in life aren’t free, and this includes the arts! We barely break even financially! Even with the grants we are awarded! The arts all across the nation are struggling to make ends meet. FDPA struggles to pay rents, salaries, artist fees, theatre and technical costs, (for events that would not normally be here if it was for profit because it’s not profitable.) publicity, insurance, printing etc., while still keeping ticket prices for those events and class fees affordable, and offering free arts programs to all the schools in the region. Each year we turn to people like you who care about the arts, our youth and the quality of life to help us cover the income gap with your generous donations.
If you believe that performing arts are important and vital to enhancing the quality of life of residents in our region, please send us your generous contribution. In order to achieve our fund-raising goal this year, it is imperative that our supporters step forward with vigor.
We appreciate you and your support!
Cindy Barnhart
Executive Director

CALCULATING TUITION
Add up the total hours of classes being taken and click this link to find your monthly rate. NOTE: Two 3/4 hour classes (I Can Dance, Kinderdance, Pre-ballet) are charged as 2 hours a week.
The registration fee is $15 per each person/child registering and must accompany each registration form. The registration fee is non-refundable. Dancers are registered for the entire year. All back tuition and fees must be paid in full in order to enroll and participate in any dance class, performance, or the spring recital.
When a student makes a change in enrollment, either by adding a class or by dropping one, or by withdrawing from a course, please let the office know. To ensure your classes are changed, call the office or send an email to amanda@festivaldance.org with "This is an Add/Drop/Withdrawal" as the subject line. We always strive to keep our class lists correct. Failure to let us know that you are no longer attending a class will result in your being charged for the class. If you have any questions about your account or enrollment status please do not hesitate to contact us.
In the case of withdrawals (other than for injury or severe illness), notification must be received BEFORE the 5th of the month. Non-injury/illness withdrawals received after the 5th, will be charged for the current month’s tuition. All other situations, in which a refund might be warranted, shall be decided on a case by case basis by the Executive Director.
Parents are welcome to observe classes during our two Observation Weeks – the first full week of November & March. All other classes are closed for observation. This policy is for the benefit of your child. A distraction-free class provides the best atmosphere for learning. Parents are also invited to attend the Holiday Open House Programs in December. If a parent has a particular concern and would like to observe a class, special arrangements can be made by calling us.
Although we encourage students and parents to discuss any concerns about a class with the teacher, it is not always convenient for teachers to talk at length between classes. To respect teacher’s privacy, we ask that you call the Moscow office and we will have the teacher call you.
The cost for our recital fee is $25 for each course that the student is registered. This fee covers the technical costs, facility rental and costume needs for the recital. Admission to the recital is free!
We DO NOT ALWAYS close for school snow days. When public schools are closed either call the office 883-3267, check the homepage on our website, or listen to KRPL, KOZE, or NPR to see if we are closed. We try to schedule make-ups for classes cancelled during the year, however, if a class is cancelled for weather related circumstances, the Executive Director will decide based on a number of factors, whether the class will be made up. We DO NOT close for public school in-service days.
If we have to cancel class for whatever reason, we can contact you via email. To make this possible it is very important that we have your e-mail address, so PLEASE fill out your e-mail address on your registration form legibly. Help US keep in contact!

With that in mind, we are closely monitoring public health agency news about H1N1 developments and we are working to educate and communicate information to our students, as well as guests and visitors, about prevention measures and good health practices.
During the flu season, Festival Dance will follow recommendations from the State of Idaho public health department and from the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
As a reminder, and as with seasonal regular flu, H1N1 may worsen pre-existing or underlying medical conditions. If you have serious concerns, or your symptoms worsen, contact your healthcare provider to assess the best course of treatment.
